Imagine a rocky point with large cliffs dropping into the ocean and sweeping views of all of Pacifica down to half Moon Bay and up to the Marin Headlands. That and more is Pedro Point Headland, a green landscape that was acquired by the City of Pacifica and the California Coastal Conservancy over ten years ago. The headlands are currently managed by the Pacifica Land Trust and could potentially become part of the Golden Gate National Park (GGNRA).

The Pacifica Land Trust is delighted to announce The Pedro Point Headland Stewardship Project to preserve and restore this open space. This project was made possible by a grant from the Coastal Conservancy. This grant along with the volunteer resources of The Pacifica Land Trust, The Pedro Point Community Association (PPCA) and Go Native Nursery will go towards conservation of the Pedro Point Headland as we move towards restoring one of the open space jewels of the San Mateo coast.

The Pedro Point Headland Stewardship Project has four primary goals: (1) maintain and improve the ecological status of Pedro Point Headland; (2) create a safe and enjoyable environment for recreational use of the property; (3) build a volunteer-based stewardship program with the local community that will be focused on a partnership with the Pedro Point Community Association; and (4) protect endangered/native species through education of the PPCA and other volunteers on these projects.

The project is solely funded by the Coastal Conservancy and we are pleased to say that there is no funding coming from the city other than the volunteer services which many of our citizen volunteers are providing now and will continue to provide in the coming years. The project will be overseen by the Pacifica Land Trust in partnership with the PPCA.

The headlands are a crucial trail nexus tying together the southern Corral de Tierra-McNee Ranch State Park complex with Pacifica’s coastal trail and other GGNRA park lands. Although still not part of the GGNRA, Pedro Point Headland is increasingly used by the public as a recreational resource.
